Location & Historical Background

Piraiki is located at the southwestern tip of Piraeus and is one of the most recognizable coastal areas of Attica. It is surrounded by the Saronic Gulf and stretches along the coastline from Pasalimani to the port of Keratsini. The area is known for its coastal road, Akti Themistokleous, which follows the route of the ancient walls of Conon. Historically, Piraiki served as a naval and military hub since antiquity, while in the post-war years it developed into a quiet, densely populated urban neighborhood with a strong seaside character.

Nature and Green Spaces

Although Piraiki lacks extensive parks, its coastline itself serves as a “natural lung.” The seaside promenade is ideal for walking, running, and cycling, offering uninterrupted views of the Saronic Gulf. There are small organized squares, such as Kanari Square, and green spots near churches and neighborhoods. The sunset in Piraiki is considered among the most beautiful in Attica.

Daily Life & Leisure

Piraiki is famous for its rich gastronomic scene, particularly the seaside ouzo bars and fish taverns lining Akti Themistokleous. The local market is limited but supported by small grocery stores, bakeries, cafés, and mini markets. For more extensive shopping, residents head to the center of Piraeus. The area is particularly popular for afternoon and Sunday walks and attracts many visitors from other parts of Attica.

Transportation & Accessibility

Piraiki does not have a metro or suburban railway station; however, access to the center of Piraeus is immediate, and from there one can use the metro (Lines 1 and 3) or the suburban railway.

Buses:

  • 904: Piraiki – Piraeus (circular route passing through the port and the city center)

  • 909: Piraiki – Piraeus – Neo Faliro

  • 300 (Express): Circular route in central Piraeus, with stops near Piraiki

  • 826, 832, 833: Connections to Kaminia, Keratsini, and other nearby neighborhoods

Travel times:

  • Piraeus center: 5–10 minutes by bus or car

  • Syntagma: 30–35 minutes combining bus and metro

  • Port of Piraeus: 5 minutes

Parking

Parking in Piraiki is generally convenient, especially for permanent residents with private spaces or garages. In many neighborhoods, particularly on interior streets, one can find a spot relatively easily, while the coastal zone offers several points for short-term parking, facilitating access to shops and dining venues.

Education & Infrastructure

In Piraiki and neighboring areas, there are:
