Keratsini

Area, Quality of Life & Real Estate Market 2025

Location & Historical Background

Keratsini belongs to the Piraeus region and is one of the most dynamic municipalities of the wider area, with a strong industrial and port-related character. It borders Nikaia, Korydallos, Piraeus, and Drapetsona, while its coastal zone is directly linked to commercial and transport activities.

Nature & Green Spaces

Urban development dominates the landscape; however, the area includes parks, small squares, and neighborhood green spaces that act as vital breathing points for residents. The coastal front offers views of the Saronic Gulf and areas for walking.

Daily Life & Leisure

The local market of Keratsini is vibrant and meets everyday needs:

  • Shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, and cafés are concentrated around squares and main streets.

  • Neighborhoods feature small businesses, grocery stores, workshops, and service providers.

  • Central streets such as Piraeus Avenue, Dimokratias Avenue, 25th Martiou Street, and Haravgi Street combine commercial activity with daily convenience.

Transportation & Accessibility

General Overview
Although Keratsini does not have its own metro station, it is effectively connected to the wider Attica transport network via buses, trolleybuses, suburban railway, and of course direct access to both Athens city center and Piraeus. The area is gradually developing into a hub linking urban and suburban networks.

Buses
The bus network is dense and multi-faceted:

  • Lines 824, 825, 826 connect Keratsini with nearby areas and Piraeus.

  • Line 841 provides direct access to large parts of the municipality.

  • Frequency: approximately every 20–35 minutes, with higher frequency during peak hours. Services operate consistently on a daily basis.

Trolleybuses & Suburban Railway

  • Trolleybus Line 17 (Piraeus – Agios Georgios) serves the area. The stop at “25th Martiou” is about a 7-minute walk away.

  • The suburban railway (lines P2A and P3B) also serves the wider area, providing alternative long-distance connections.

Metro

  • The nearest metro is Line 3 (M3), with a stop at Dimotiko Theatro in Piraeus, located nearby and convenient for commuters.

  • The metro connects directly to central hubs such as Omonia and Syntagma, with trains every 5–10 minutes during peak hours.

  • In 2020, the stations “Agia Varvara,” “Korydallos,” and “Nikaia” were opened, improving connections for the municipalities of Piraeus, Keratsini-Drapetsona, and surrounding areas.

From/To the Airport

  • The airport can be reached by bus X93 towards Piraeus (~1h36m), from where travelers can transfer by bus or taxi to Keratsini.

Parking

Parking is easier in interior neighborhoods. There is also an organized open-air parking facility near the port.
