Area Overview, Quality of Life 2025

Location & Historical Background

Aigaleo is located in the Western Sector of Athens and borders to the east with the Municipality of Athens, to the north with the Municipalities of Peristeri and Chaidari, to the west with the Municipalities of Nikaia – Agios Ioannis Rentis and Agia Varvara, and to the south with the Municipality of Moschato – Tavros. It is a vibrant and densely populated urban area with a strategic location, combining commercial activity, green spaces, and direct access to both the center of Athens and Piraeus.

Nature & Green Spaces

Despite its urban density, Aigaleo boasts a significant green lung, the Alsos (also known as “Baroutadiko”), ideal for walking, jogging, and outdoor activities. The area also has small parks and playgrounds, mainly located near residential neighborhoods.

Daily Life & Entertainment

The local market in Aigaleo fully meets daily needs, with supermarkets, retail stores, and services. Iera Odos hosts many clothing and footwear stores, while Agias Lavras Street is known for its traditional tsipouradika and taverns, which fill with people in the evenings and on weekends. Additionally, small bars and cafés offer options for more relaxed entertainment.

Transport & Accessibility

Aigaleo is one of the best-served areas of the western suburbs in terms of public transportation, thanks to its strategic position and the presence of the “Aigaleo” station on Metro Line 3 (Blue).
