Korydallos

Area Overview, Quality of Life & 2025

Location & Historical Background

Korydallos is located in the western suburbs of Attica, bordering Nikaia to the west and south, Agia Varvara to the east, and Chaidari to the north. The area has a long history and is widely known for the Korydallos Prison, situated near the town center. Over the past five years, Korydallos has been undergoing an upgrade, with the most notable development being the extension of Metro Line 3, which brought the “Korydallos” station to Eleftherias Square.

Nature & Green Spaces

The area offers several green spaces and squares, with significant redevelopments in recent years, such as the creation of a large park opposite the prison and the redesign of Memou Square. Despite its urban density, residents have access to playgrounds, small groves, and recreational spots that provide fresh air and social gathering opportunities.

Daily Life & Entertainment

Korydallos’ commercial market is one of the most complete in the western suburbs. On central streets like Taxiarchon and Athinas, you can find a wide variety of clothing and footwear shops, while Memou Square and Eleftherias Square host numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants. The presence of the metro has boosted the vibrancy of the area, bringing in more foot traffic and new businesses. It’s a district that meets the needs of both permanent residents and visitors alike.

Transport & Accessibility

Korydallos enjoys excellent access to both central Athens and Piraeus, thanks to its strategic location between two major transport arteries (Petrou Ralli Avenue and Schistou Avenue) and the operation of the “Korydallos” station on Metro Line 3 (Blue). The 2020 metro extension was a turning point for the area, significantly reducing travel times and increasing its appeal for permanent residence and investment.

In shopping areas and near the metro station, demand rises, particularly during morning hours. Public parking spaces and open-air car parks provide alternative options for residents and visitors.

Education & Infrastructure

The area has a full network of public schools (kindergartens, primary schools, junior high, and high schools). There is a notable concentration of educational institutions in the northern part of Korydallos, from Grigoriou Lampraki Street up to Schisto.
